Join our sought-after Site Management Trainee Programme, where you’ll be at the very heart of our business and play a vital role in ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time and of course on budget. You’ll oversee various subcontractor and operative activities working across several workstreams within our business.
Using the knowledge and skills you’ve learnt on the programme, you’ll:
- Promote and uphold Wates’ reputation for providing the highest standards of site safety, health and welfare and the leading voice in the protection of the environment.
- Work with our supply chain and surveyors to protect Wates’ commercial position.
- Develop strong working relationships with our clients, design team and supply chain by promoting best practice throughout the lifecycle of the construction process.
- Contribute your knowledge and skills to the delivery of the project on time, on budget to the required quality.
- Develop an understanding of technical practices and sequences on projects
- Gain ongoing knowledge of and implementation of cutting-edge construction software and technology.

- To join our Trainee Management Programme via the Graduate route, you will have a motivation to learn and develop within the industry.
For Leicester, Leeds, London (Harrow), and Reading, you’ll have obtained or be working towards a 2:2 Cognate Degree. Leeds, Leicester and Reading also require a full UK driving license.
For Castle Donington, Poole, Central London, North London (Finsbury Park), Manchester Stevenage and Warrington you’ll have obtained or be working towards a 2:2 degree in any subject area. All of these locations require a full UK driving license.
Some locations will require specific travel commitments, may require stays away from home which will be fully expensed by Wates and/or require advanced security checks.
Leicester, specific base location, regular travel to projects across East Midlands region.
Castle Donington – initially office based, you will be required to work on one of our large projects in Gartree, which also requires you to undergo advanced security clearance.
Leeds - you will be based from a specific location but with projects widespread across the Yorkshire and North East region, you must be able to travel between projects in this area.
Central London - you will be based from a specific office, regularly travelling between multiple project locations nationally, may involve periods of staying away from home; it’s important for you to be flexible and committed to travelling.
Manchester - based from a specific location, regular travel across the North West project portfolio required.
Reading - based from a specific location, projects are spread across Reading and Newbury, so you will regularly be required to travel between projects in these areas.
Warrington – regular travel required nationally. Periods of staying away from home so it’s important for you to be flexible and committed to travelling.
