What personal data will we collect about you?

Personal data means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual. For the purposes of providing these services, Jisc will process the following personal data:

  • Identity and contact data: This includes your first name, last name, email address, address, and telephone number. We may collect this information from you when you contact us or when you request services from us.
  • Technical and usage data: This includes information we obtain from your device or browser (such as IP address, your login data, version and device identifiers, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions and operating system) as well as how you use our website and services.
  • Information that we need if you join a research project or receive our services: This includes additional information relating to your use of the services or role in the project. We collect this when you use the service or take part in the project.
  • Information collected when you contact us: This includes information in emails and other communications with us, or call recordings when you phone us. This may include the different types of content (e.g. photographs, articles, comments) you send to us when contacting us, or through social media accounts with third parties, or any other information that you want to share with us.
  • Information about your preferences: This includes information such as relevant subjects/interests that you voluntarily provide to help us provide relevant information to you.
  • Job application information: If you apply for a job with us, we will also collect your application data, which includes your contact information (including name, postal address, email address and phone number), job history, curriculum vitae (CV), contact details of your referees and any other personal information you choose to submit along with your application when applying for a job.
  • Special category data: As well as information about your gender and contact information, we may also collect information about your ethnic group, socioeconomic background, and disability to send positive action messages on behalf of universities and/or employers. This processing is only carried out with your explicit consent.

How do we use your personal data?

The following sets out why we process your personal data, and also our lawful basis for processing your personal data. We may rely on more than one lawful basis for processing your personal data depending on the context of the processing activity.

Activities necessary for the performance of a contract with you, or to take steps at your request prior to entering a contract 

  • To allow for the application of jobs across the website.

Activities necessary for our legitimate interests (to inform and improve the business)

Targeting and profiling preferences

We use a variety of applications (Google Re-marketing, Facebook Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag) to personalise and target appropriate content to you:

Google Re-marketing

If you would prefer to not receive any targeted advertising, you can deactivate the use of cookies for these purposes through Google. Alternatively, users can deactivate the use of cookies by third-party providers by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative's opt-out page.

Facebook Pixel

This tool allows us to re-target users on Facebook after they have visited the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ site. Facebook can connect the data with your Facebook account and use the data for their own advertising purposes, in accordance with Facebook's Data Use Policy. You can revoke your permission at Website Custom Audiences.

LinkedIn Insight Tag

This tool allows us to re-target users using LinkedIn's advertising network after they have visited our website. It also allows us to see further data about the visitors to our website using the LinkedIn platform. The LinkedIn Insight Tag enables the collection of metadata such as IP address information, timestamp, page views and events. Updating your personal information

Please keep us informed of any changes to your personal details. At any time, you can update or correct your registration information and change your choices about the information services you would like to receive by logging into your account.

Sharing your personal data

We may share your personal data with carefully selected third-party suppliers to deliver some of our services, such as our email campaign provider to enable us to send you relevant information or marketing materials. In all cases, we will ensure that only the minimum amount of personal data required to deliver the service is shared.

We also reserve the right to release personal information without your consent or without consulting you, when we believe this is appropriate. This may be to comply with our legal obligations, to enforce our terms and conditions, to protect the security of the website or to prevent fraud.

From time to time, we may share anonymous, aggregated information about visitors to this site to potential advertisers, business partners and sponsors, such as the number of users we have, their average age, location, etc. This information will be shared in a way that ensures your identity is not revealed.

Unsubscribing and disabling your account

You may unsubscribe from any of our emails by following the unsubscribe link in any of our email communications to you or, alternatively, by logging in to your email subscriptions page to edit your subscriptions. To delete your account, log in to your Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ account page. Please note that deleting your account login does not remove the information we hold on you.
