Course content
This PhD program is part of the EPSRC CDT in Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing, led by Cardiff University with partner universities Manchester, Sheffield, and UCL. It's closely linked to the Compound Semiconductor Cluster, driving economic growth and R&D.
The CDT develops students' advanced knowledge and skills in compound semiconductor technology, research, and industry understanding, supported by full EPSRC PhD studentships. Year one involves a taught MSc program at Cardiff, tailored to your interests, and PhD project development with supervisors.
You'll then specialize, choosing the best-suited university from the four partners, all leaders in compound semiconductor research with state-of-the-art facilities.
Distinctive features:
- Funded places, including fees, a generous stipend and travel allowance.
- You can undertake your research project at one of four universities with full access to their expertise and facilities.
- If you successfully complete the programme you will be awarded both an MSc and a PhD.
· You will be part of a programme which has been developed in conjunction with industry and is aligned with their needs.
- We provide a dedicated nursery cleanroom where students can learn the basics in a supportive cohort environment before moving on to the ICS cleanroom shared with industrial staff.
- You will be encouraged to take part in poster presentations, conferences and other engagement activities.
- You have the opportunity to meet and work with world class academic members of staff, and leading professionals.
- You will have the opportunity to undertake a project working in one of our partner companies.
