English language support

Entry requirements vary by course. Applicants should check the specific entry requirements of their chosen course before applying.

Course content delivered at the University is in English, so international applicants will need to demonstrate a minimum English language proficiency as stated in their course requirements. For those whose first language is not English, an IELTS result demonstrating a minimum score of 6.5 is usually required. Equivalent test scores from other providers may be accepted in some circumstances. Students with no documented test scores are still able to apply but may be given an offer that is conditional on satisfying language requirements.

Finally, international students who need a visa to study in the UK are also required to meet the level of English required by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

Facilities and support arrangements

The University’s international advice service provides professional and friendly advice to all international students and are there to answer any questions. They offer students guidance on living and studying in the UK and arrange welcome events, along with many social and cultural events throughout the year. Students who are looking to improve their English can take up a free ten-week language programme.

Once students arrive, peer connectors offer a buddy system to help all students settle in. They show students around and give them the opportunity to meet, mix and socialise with other students.

During their time at university, if students need any support, a student support advisor will offer them guidance and can address any issues they may have with confidentiality and care. The University also has a counselling service which is available to students as well as a range of other support services.
