Entry requirements

You have a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline (as evaluated by the Board of Examiners) and a strong motivation to succeed.

Your previous education should cover:

• Basic understanding of human physiology and major pathophysiologic processes of disease
• Academic research experience for at least 3 months (e.g. internship)
• Experience with problem-based learning at academic level

In order to take part in this programme, you need to have fluency in both written and spoken English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student meets the conditions, listed on our website.

Course content

Biomedical scientists want to minimise the impact of diseases for humans and humankind. Smart, global visionaries are needed who want to solve health care issues in the lab and in the field.

Radboud University's degree in Biomedical Sciences aims to educate the best biomedical scientists with not just a thorough understanding of the molecular, individual and population aspects of human health and disease, but also by giving them skills in unique areas of expertise. The programme has a broad focus ranging from infectious disease to toxicology; epidemiology to immunology; health technology assessment to clinical human movement sciences; and medical neuroscience to diseases like cancer.

The programme gives students the opportunity to construct their own study plan based on personal academic and professional interests. Students choose one (or two) of seven specialisations:

• Clinical human movement sciences
• Drug Safety and Toxicology
• Epidemiology
• Health Technology Assessment
• Immunology and host defence
• Medical Neuroscience
• Molecular Medicine

Furthermore, students choose one of three career profiles:

• Research
• Communication
• Consultancy

What will you learn?

• You will gain a solid base in research methodology, statistics and biostatistics, laboratory research and communication skills.
• You will get an understanding of health care issues and biomedical research are placed in contexts of research and patient care.
• Learn to design, conduct and present your own research.
• Get valuable experience and insights into building your career while still learning.

Career prospects

A majority of our graduates become researchers in government departments, research organisations, universities and medical or pharmaceutical companies. Graduates also opt for careers as communication advisors or scientific consultant/advisor with a background in biomedical science, an expertise that is in high demand.
