Course content
The Research Master's programme in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease is a unique programme that translates disease-related biomedical research into molecular and clinical experimental research in patients.
This programme is organised along three major educational themes: Immunity, Infection & Inflammation, Metabolism, Transport & Motion, and Cell Growth & Differentiation. It offers a broad, interdisciplinary approach with the opportunity for specialisation in the form of electives and internships. The programme has two obligatory 6-month research-training periods, where you will gain valuable experience in performing your own research projects. You will have the opportunity to attend conferences and work with a mentor to help develop your research.
What will you learn?
- You will follow a broad biomedical programme that allows you to specialise in your specific field-of-interest
- You will develop a highly critical, independent approach to problem-solving and acquire skills in academic writing, team work and grant applications.
- You will learn to design and conduct your own research and gain experience in presenting and communicating your research
- You will acquire the basic management skills needed to lead R&D projects in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries
Career prospects
There is considerable demand for experts in the molecular biomedical sciences as well as in their application to the development of treatments for diseases such as cancer, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, and metabolic diseases.
Graduates in MMD are equipped with cutting-edge knowledge of multidisciplinary research in the mechanisms of disease and in state-of-the-art diagnostic methods and technologies. Most of our graduates will enter an international PhD programme to continue with research in academia or industry.
